Overflowing

waterThis was an amazing weekend.  Quite simply put, I’m overwhelmed (but in a good way).  The welcome of this congregation…the hospitality…the energy and excitement of a vibrant community when God’s Holy Spirit is so clearly blowing through a place.

On Sunday evening, Lori and I were sitting in our living room and she asked me “well…so how was your day?”

My answer:  “I can’t even describe it.”

I experienced smiles, laughter, conversation and connection.  I met children, youth, and adults of all ages.  I preached in a very traditional Sanctuary in a worship rich with tradition.  I preached in a very contemporary worship space in a worship blessed with great music of praise and reverence.

We enjoyed great fellowship (muffins…mmmmmm…) and I got to hear many of your dreams and visions for Trinity’s ministry.

Our whole family felt so incredibly welcomed into this community.

So how was my day?  Full to overflowing.

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.  This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”  1 John 4:7-10.

All love comes from God.  And to put it quite simply, we receive more love than we can possibly absorb.  God’s love for each of us cannot be measured nor contained.  And so it flows in, through and around us like a water glass overflowing.

That was my experience this weekend.  God’s love flowed through all of you.  Receiving that love, that welcome, that hospitality this weekend just about took my breath away.

Tonight, I get to be a part of the “Carnival Worker’s Dinner” over at the Steele County Free Fairgrounds.  It will be another opportunity for God’s love to show through this community to a population that doesn’t always receive appreciation, much less love.  I’m excited to see what God does there!  I’m excited now to be able to share some of the same hospitality that I received, with others.

Thank you, people of Trinity, for allowing God to work through you.  For showing the love of God to me and to my family.  And thanks to God, for calling me to be a part of this community!

Peace,
Pastor Todd
