Mission Jamaica: Day 2

Day 2BThe team’s scripture for the day:  “As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea – for they were fishermen.  And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.”  Immediately they left their nets and followed him.  As he went from there, he saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee and his brother John, in the boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them.”  – Matthew 4:18-31

Day 2GGod is good, all the time!  And all the time, God is good!

What a great day we had.  We were up for breakfast at 7am, met for prayer at 7:28 and were on our way at 7:30am.  We hauled our donation suitcases up with us today, which made for tight quarters in the vans, but well worth it.

When we arrived at Westhaven, we unloaded everything and then had an orientation and a tour with Jeff.  We talked through the projects and then broke into teams and went to work.

Day 2EOne team went onto the roof of cottage 3 to continue the work from the previous week on the roof.  It was hot, sunny and exhausting work.  But they were awesome.  They got the tar paper and wooden strips in place and about 4/5ths of the zinc roofing material in place by the end of the day.  We think the whole roofing project will be done by noon tomorrow.

Another crew worked with, fed, bathed and clothed the children, we had a team doing some painting and another crew stored away tDay 2Fahe donation suitcases that we brought up with us.

We really pushed water today.  It was hot and sunny in the morning, and we wanted to make sure people kept healthy.  The team left Westhaven around 3:15pm and was back at the hotel shortly after 4pm.  Folks grabbed a quick bite to eat and were able to take a quick ocean swim to cool down before cleaning up for devotions at 6pm.

Day 2CAt devotions, we processed our day, made our plans for tomorrow and had about a half-hour of faith talk in small groups.  Today we focused on the question of “call.”  How and when are we called?  What brought us to Jamaica?  How do we experience God’s call at home?  We had great conversation.

After devos and then dinner, a bunch of us hung out in the hotel lobby, some played games and others talked.  Everyone was pretty tired, and by about 9:00pm most had headed to their Day 2Hrooms.

We are grateful for God’s presence and protection today.  Please continue to keep us in your prayers, especially the crew on the roof in the heat and sun.

God’s peace,
Pastor Todd
